Fencing, epigrams, and pure awesomeness make up today’s Match-Up combatants! The fantastic fencer from The Princess Bride, Inigo Montoya studied swordsmanship out of desire for revenge. As there’s not a lot of money in the revenge business, though, he turned to piracy and mercenary work to pay the bills – and this had the added benefit of giving him some real-world application for his considerable, nearly unequaled skills. Through each new job, Inigo hopes that one day his travels will bring him face to face with the man who killed his father, to whom he can say the words he’s waited half of his life to say… but that day isn’t today, as water dancer Syrio Forel would tell him! The former First Sword of Braavos was commissioned by Eddard Stark to train his daughter Arya how to use a blade. Sharp as the needle after which Arya named her sword, Syrio’s training encompasses speed, awareness of one’s surroundings, and reading one’s opponents. There is but one god, he asserts, and that is Death, and Syrio deals damage on behalf of his god with a startling ease, even when armed with only a wooden training sword. Armed with steel, one can only imagine the skill of a former First Sword of Braavos. If anyone could stand up to him, it might be Inigo, the finest swordsman of his generation. But what do you think? Would Inigo walk away from this fight able to continue his search for the six-fingered man, or would Syrio Forel dance circles around him?
